The most expensive milk in the world
Even if I wanted to drink milk in Korea, I had a conflict in front of milk and eventually failed to buy 1L milk.
Overview
It's not that I can't drink milk because I don't have money This is because I wonder if it is worth drinking while paying this much money. It is hard to find food other than milk that has nearly doubled compared to the past. Why is a liter of milk twice as expensive as developed countries in Korea? And even though the country has a small territory, I don't know if the price is so high in the distribution process...
Why do I feel sorry for watching milk-related articles in Korea recently? I saw an article saying that they would throw away milk that they could not even drink to maintain the price and bankrupt a living cow to reduce the amount of milk. How does humans have the right to breed animals if they need them and kill them if they don't need them? As a person, not only did I shock myself with such cruel and unethical ideas, I don't understand all these situations that happen because of money and selfishness.
So there is no problem with milk prices in developed countries?
Let's take Germany as an example.
Can you see the phrase that they go on strike because 40L of milk is cheaper than 1L of beer? Of course, what they said was 1L of beer was, to exaggerate, compared to the price of beer sold only at relatively expensive festivals. Even so, compared to the situation in Korea, this is also ridiculous.
So why don't they raise the price of milk like in Korea?
What German companies and German politicians are most afraid of is strikes and boycotts. In fact, if public opinion is like this, the tyranny of large corporations cannot beat the people. When a large company tried to distribute genetically modified cheap eggs in Germany, all the people began boycotting them... The decaying eggs forced companies to throw away huge amounts of money a day.
Can the price of milk be set after the EU FTA?
Over the past 20 years (2001-2020), domestic milk prices have risen 72.2%. It has increased significantly compared to major countries such as Japan (33.8%), Europe (19.6%), and the United States (11.8%). Without price adjustment, domestic crude oil prices can become more expensive than imported products, which can lead to an increase in dairy imports. On top of that, if the FTA is implemented, domestic milk will inevitably fall behind in price competitiveness.
Three line summary
1. With the current milk price linkage system, dairy farmers and companies are accumulating wealth by selling milk at the highest price in the world without making any effort. The people of Korea are being forced to buy the world's most expensive milk. (Korean dairy farmers are receiving subsidies from the government, and they have a great influence on the determination of milk prices.)
2. From 2026, tariffs on milk and cheese will be abolished due to the EU FTA, which will cause dairy farmers to be in trouble.
3. Dairy farmers do not intend to increase their price competitiveness and are already preparing for large-scale protests.
