Overview
It is a private general university under Hanyang Academy, a school corporation, and has a Seoul campus in Seongdong-gu, Seoul, and an ERICA campus in Ansan-si, Gyeonggi-do.
Symbols are lion, forsythia, pigeon, and symbol color is Hanyang Blue. As it has been working on engineering education since its foundation, famous for engineering. After liberation in 1945, the school name was changed to Konkuk Technical School, and in 1947, Hanyang Academy was established and reorganized into Hanyang Night Technical University, and then changed to Hanyang Technical University in 1948. In 1959, it was reorganized into a general university and renamed with the current school name. Since then, it has been approved for establishment in Ansan-si, Gyeonggi-do in 1979, and has operated two campuses. Law schools and medical schools exist, and Hanyang University Hospital is an affiliated hospital.
Founding spirit
Hanyang University is one of the higher educational institutions operated by Hanyang Academy, a school corporation, and the founding spirit of Hanyang Academy is the practice of love. It means to understand and practice love to form a human being who can work hard, be honest, humble, and serve, and to enhance a noble academic spirit to become a great practitioner of love that contributes to the community, country, and even humanity. Therefore, Hanyang University's Self-introduction method is used as <Patriotic Hanyang (애국한양)>. Its meaning is 'Hanyang School that thinks about the country'.
Hanyang Academy's founding spirit is in line with the educational purpose of completing individual personality based on the ideology of <Hongik Ingan (홍익인간)>, cultivating the qualities of citizens with independent living ability, serving the development of a democratic country and contributing to the realization of the ideal of human communication.
The founder, Dr. Kim Yeon-joon, was a very devout Protestant to the extent that he composed hymns, but Hanyang Academy, a school corporation, is a general school corporation. In other words, Hanyang University is not a mission school established for missionary purposes. However, the Christian Korean Baptist Church sends Hanyang University's school tree and is classified as a Baptist-affiliated foundation. There is a chapel in ITBT, and religious events such as worship are held. Of course, attendance is free and there are more students who don't know.
It is often compared to Hong Kong Baptist University in many ways in that it is a Baptist university, not a mission school. Of course, Hanyang University is ranked higher worldwide.
As of 2018, Hanyang University ranked fourth with 108% (holding amount of KRW 498.3 billion) among the evaluation of basic property for profit at 15 private university corporations.
Seoul Campus
It is located at 222 Wangsimni-ro, Seongdong-gu, Seoul. Since its opening in 1939, it has been going back and forth between Jongno and Sindang-dong, and it has been established in its current location in 1953. It was also called Haengdang Campus in the past because the main building is located in Haengdang-dong, but it is not currently an official name.
As of 2021, there are engineering colleges, medical schools, humanities and science colleges, social science colleges, natural science colleges, policy science colleges, economics and finance universities, business schools, education colleges, music colleges, international departments, and nursing departments.

main building & old main building |
The left building is the new main building, and the right building is the old main building (completed in 1954). These buildings will welcome you as soon as you come out of "Ajimun", Exit 2 of Hanyang University Station. They are buildings that ordinary students rarely visit, but they still give off a crazy presence when they take graduation photos.

Ajimun |
People who walk around in neat suits in the plaza in front of the main building in autumn will most likely be taking graduation photos. For reference, the old main building on the right is a building symbolizing the history of Hanyang University and the development of Wangsimni, and has been designated as National Registered Cultural Property No. 751, and is currently used as Hanyang University History Hall. Ryu Chun-soo (a graduate of the 70th year of construction) was in charge of the design of the new main building located next to the old main building. The main building and the old main building have sides connected by a bridge of clouds, and a statue of the school's founder, Dr. Baek Nam Kim Yeon-jun, is erected in front of the main building. Until around 2009, landscaping was decorated around the lion statue of the old main building.
Geographical advantage & disadvantage
Since the campus is the mountain itself, moving between buildings consumes a lot of physical strength. The College of Humanities, the College of Natural Sciences, and the College of Education are located at the top of the hill, so you can see the night view of Seoul at night, and the plane flying in the sky feels quite close. The construction method called Hanyang Construction Method, which was created because it was located on a hill, stands out, and it was nicknamed because the main gate and lobby were built on the third floor, not the first floor, and the windows were on the first basement floor. However, there are not many underground buildings or underground passages between campuses, perhaps because it was built on the solid granite stone mountain ground.
There is a famous anecdote about its founder, Dr. Kim Yeon-joon, who ordered not to stop the campus renovation for a while. The appearance of the campus is so changeable that the appearance of the campus is different from that of a senior and a freshman who just entered. When students go home during vacation and come back to school, a building is built, and sometimes it disappears. The fact that there is no main gate of the school is a part of its history, but in the past, there was also a main gate, so the atmosphere at the graduation ceremony was great. Although it is well decorated as a square now, there is no boundary called the main gate, so it is somewhat difficult for college students to spread mats and enjoy romance in the square connected to the road.
Wangsimni Station is a transportation hub that can be transferred to Line 2, Line 5, Bundang Line, and Gyeongui Jungang Line, and an additional Northeast Line leading to Nowon-gu will be completed in 2024. As a result, all hot places in Seoul can arrive in less than 20 minutes after school. Gapyeong, Cheongpyeong, and Daeseong-ri, which go to MT places a lot at the beginning of the semester, are also very accessible. (The entrance to Konkuk University is 5 minutes by subway, Hongdae and Sinchon are 20 minutes by Gangnam Station, 20 minutes by Itaewon, 15 minutes by Hyehwa, etc.)(Actually, you can cut itx and move it within an hour.) Bus services to Apgujeong and Sinsa Gangnam, and buses to Hannam-dong and Itaewon passing Eungbong Peak are also well-equipped, and late-night buses also pass in front of Wangsimni Station and Hanyang University. From December 2020, Seongdong 03-2 Village Bus will enter the campus.
However, students do not always end school and play outside Wangsimni. Before Wangsimni Station was developed, there were many bars with a gloomy atmosphere as if proving that it was a famous engineering school, but with the construction of Enter 6 and Bitflex (complex facility ex) and the introduction of Seoul Forest The Sharp, a large rodeo street comparable to most commercial districts was formed.(In fact, I think the commercial districts in front of the school are a bit like that, so I went out to Sinchon, Konkuk University, and Gangnam a lot, and then I thought about whether I should take a bus to Wangsimni and slowly sat down in Wangsimni. That's how many things are in Wangsimni.)
Major buildings

Seoul Hanyang University Old Main Building (History Museum) |
It was built as a wooden building when the Seoul Campus was built in 1953, and then rebuilt as a stone building in 1956. Since then, it has been expanded several times, and the problem of aging and space narrowing has been raised, and a new main building was built on the left side to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the school's opening.

Seoul Hanyang University New Main Building |
Regarding the construction of the new main building, there was some dispute with the university over the exterior design of the building, as opposition was raised by some professors and students of the Department of Architecture of the 1st Engineering University. Professors and students of the Department of Architecture raised the issue, saying that the authoritative impression of the blue bell tower in the center of the new main building is reminiscent of the building of the Governor-General of Japanese colonial era. The school explained that the motif was derived from the building of the Dong-A Institute of Engineering, the predecessor of Hanyang University, and no criticism has been raised about the architectural style of the main building.
It is a building where most of the administrative departments of the university headquarters are located, and is also used for internal and external guests. On the front of the building, there is a statue of founder Dr. Kim Yeon-jun, which was unveiled with the completion of the new main building. Entering the main gate of the building on the first floor, there is a huge model that expresses the building and topography of Hanyang University Seoul Campus. It is the latest edition that depicts the architectural museum and the Jeong Mong-gu Future Automobile Research Center.
It is one of the buildings where ordinary undergraduates do not have to go inside once until graduation.

New Material Engineering Building |
It is a building with laboratories and laboratories of professors of electronics, electricity, machinery, and industrial engineering (second engineering and fourth engineering), and administrative teams and department offices of engineering colleges. The third floor of this building is a transfer hub reminiscent of Wangsimni Station. You can move to the second floor of the second engineering building through the cloud bridge on the right side of the building, and you can move to the fifth floor of the industrial center annex through the passage connected to the stairs. In addition, the cloud bridge on the right side of the building leads to the third floor of the New Material Engineering Museum.

Fusion Tech Center (FTC) |
Several graduate schools are located, including the Nano Science Research Institute and the Graduate School of Medicine and Biotechnology, where professors from the University of Nature and Engineering gather, and research facilities of various venture companies are also located. The Seoul branch of the Japan Institute of Science and Technology and the Samsung Electronics-Hynix Joint Semiconductor Research Center are also housed. On the third floor, there were the International Cooperation Agency and CNN Cafe, but CNN Cafe was changed to Dopio Coffee in early 2016 and Blueport Coffee from 2019. If you are an energy engineering student, you can come to the lecture, and many foreigners come and go because the International Cooperation Agency is located. Laboratory of Convergence Electronics, Laboratory of Mechanical Engineering, and Laboratory/Laboratory of Energy Engineering are located. It may be hard to notice after looking at the building, but the entrance that we perceive as the first floor is the third floor. It is also the building where the Honors Program student lounge is located. Originally, this place was a large playground and a road running on its edge, but before I knew it, the size of the large playground was reduced a little and the road was pushed to the side, and such a huge building was built. Thanks to this, the building has a triangular floor plan, and there is a trapezoidal lecture room, and it is a unique building.

Director for Economic and Financial Affairs/Information on Legal Studies |
When viewed from the front of the building, it is used as the Economic and Financial Hall on the left and the Law and Academic Information Hall on the right. Although it is the same building, the Economic Finance Hall and the Law and Academic Information Hall are not connected. If you go down to the second basement floor of the Economic and Finance Hall, you can go to the Management Hall without getting rained on because the underground passage connected to Haengwon Park. In addition, if you enter the Law Academic Information Center, you will find the Meeting Plaza, which is connected to both the 1, 2, and 3 law institutions. The law school information center reading room was created as an infrastructure for law schools when competing for law school approval, and the environment is pleasant.

Social Science Museum (School of Public Policy) |
Social Science Museum (School of Public Policy)
Originally, the College of Social Sciences was using a building that is currently used as the Economic Finance Hall/Law Academic Information Center. However, he moved to the current building decades ago due to the establishment of law schools and commercial colleges. The current building was originally named the First Education Center, and was built at the same time as the First Engineering Center. Although it has been remodeled, an old feeling still exists on the exterior walls of the building. After remodeling and increasing the number of public policy schools, the social science museum opened a new entrance to the high-level campus, which became a new gateway for students using the high-level campus. The school closed its elevators only between the first and third floors, but withdrew them in the face of fierce protests from students. Currently, the College of Social Sciences, the Graduate School of International Tourism, and the Graduate School of Public Policy are in use.

Business School Center |
It was completed in 2007, and is used by business schools, business schools, and technical management schools. There are facilities with corporate names (SKT Hall and Shinhan Lounge) in the building, and the basement is connected to Haengwon Park.

College of Education |
It is also called a high-flying campus. In fact, this place and the area of Baeknam Academic Information Center are the top of the hill. One of the characteristics of the high-flying campus is that it is one of the closest campus areas to Wangsimni Station based on the energy stairs of energy. As a result, high school students who are expected to be late are faster to rush at Exit 6 of Wangsimni Station than at Hanyang University Station after transferring to Line 2. The College of Education building was also a crude and tasteless building in the past, but it became one of the coolest buildings in the school when it was newly remodeled in the late 2000s. Currently, the College of Education, Graduate School of Education, and Graduate School of Counseling and Psychology use this building.

Baeknam Academic Information Center |
Located in the center of Hanyang University, it is a large and beautiful three-story, six-story central library. Among the students, it is also called the Mazinga body, and for engineering students, it reminds them of nuclear power plants. Rumor has it that the original design of the building was different from its current form. The Baeknam Academic Information Center has a long side box and cylinder, but its original design is said to have been Cube and cylinder. However, on the day of the design and design announcement, the president decided that CG and models would cost too much, so he said, "The library should look like a matchbox," and ordered it to be shaped like a long box next to it. A professor of architecture, who was in charge of designing the library, asked, "If so, can I insert a cylinder?" and now the form of Baeknam Academic Information Center has emerged. (...) You can get off at Hanyang University Station, climb the stairs of the main building, and take a little up the hill. You can enter only when you stamp your student ID. In addition, ordinary people can enter if they get a reading card.

Haengwon Park |
It is an underground campus located on the third campus. There is a park on the ground, and there is a parking lot, student welfare facilities, and lecture rooms underground. There is an underground passage that connects the management hall and the economic finance hall, and some facilities are shared with Hanyang Women's University. In fact, Haengwon Park and Management Hall are buildings built with Hanyang University's money on land owned by Hanyang Women's University, and have some subtleties. Therefore, underground notices are also mixed with Hanyang Women's University style (orange/gray) and Hanyang University style (blue series), and are also mixed in doors and elevators.

an open-air theater |
It is a large stage that you can see right after you exit the main gate of the second engineering building and is directly connected to the welfare facility on the first basement floor of the Jeongmong-gu Future Automobile Research Center. It is easy to find students playing tennis or playing catch on the playground in front of the stage. On the stairs surrounding the playground, students huddle together at lunchtime and spend a peaceful time ordering Jajangmyeon or eating lunch boxes. During the festival, hundreds of chairs are brought to the playground and invited singers are invited to perform.

a grand playground |
Even though the playgrounds of most universities in Seoul were changed to artificial turf, they were sand playgrounds that flew dirt until 2018. Then, construction began in November, and it was changed to an artificial turf stadium, 863 underground parking lots, 49 club rooms, basketball courts, 400m tracks, and various sports equipment.

AF Stairs |
It is a staircase that connects the student center square (Hanmadang) and the entrance to the first floor of the social studies university. The number of stairs is 88, so this name is given, but the exact origin is unknown. It is also called Aehan Stairway because it says "Patriotic Hanyang".
There is a theory that the reason why it is named A/F stairs is because the credits are divided into A and F depending on the direction of the stairs that you use based on the middle handle. Maybe that's why most students use the stairs on the left. In fact, on the left side, patriotism (A staircase) is painted in red, and on the mail, Hanyang (F staircase) is painted in blue.

Has a satellite campus (ERICA)
It is located at 55 Hanyang Daehak-ro, Sangnok-gu, Ansan-si, Gyeonggi-do. After being established under the name Banwol Branch School in 1979, the campus was renamed Banwol Campus, 2nd Campus, and Ansan Campus, and then renamed ERICA Campus in 2009.
In 2015, it was financially separated from the Seoul Campus and operated school expenses independently.
As of 2017, there are engineering colleges, software convergence colleges, pharmacology colleges, science and technology convergence colleges, international culture colleges, media information colleges, design colleges, and arts and sports colleges.
The inter-campus transfer system was operated temporarily. On the other hand, in the case of double majors, it is possible to double major in all fields between campuses, and the graduate school process is even integrated and operated.
Has a famouse University of engineering
Hanyang University was the only private engineering university in Korea from its opening in 1939 to its promotion to a general university in 1959. Therefore, Hanyang University is famous as Hanyang University of Technology. In particular, engineering colleges appear first in the order of introducing colleges on the school's official website. There is a famous anecdote that President Park Chung-hee said at the construction site of the Gyeongbu Expressway, "This is all Hanyang University of Technology." Hanyang University's ERICA campus was also built during the Park Chung-hee administration, and President Park Chung-hee called in Kim Yeon-jun, the first president of Hanyang University, to provide a large flatland of Banwol Industrial Complex in Ansan, Gyeonggi Province, for almost free.
Has a entrepreneurial spirit
Hanyang University has a well-established foundation for realizing students' ideas as actual start-ups, and in particular, it is evaluated that the school's support and alumni network are solid.
According to the 2015 University Evaluation of the Joong Ang Ilbo, which surveyed 10,000 representatives of venture certified companies by the Korea Technology Guarantee Fund, Hanyang University had the largest number of 534 people as a result of analyzing universities from venture start-ups. Since then, there have been many graduates from Seoul National University (449 students) and Inha University (387 students). According to the Venture Business Association's "Cumulative University Status (Cumulative) of Venture Businesses," Hanyang University produced 203 CEOs of venture companies, more than Seoul National University (163). Yonsei University (159) and Korea University (155). According to a survey of 133 CEOs of the nation's top 100 companies in 2015, Hanyang University was the fourth largest after Seoul National University, Yonsei University and Korea University.
It operates the Hanyang University Startup Support Group as an institution that serves as a control tower for venture and start-up support of Hanyang University. From July 2020, 100 domestic and foreign start-up experts will be commissioned to support full defense mentoring for scale-up of prospective startups and early startups. The one-stop start-up counseling room is available to anyone who is preparing to start a business, and can apply through the start-up counseling room or the Kakao Talk channel "Hanyang Startup Talk."
In addition, there is an open production space called Idea Factory that can experiment and implement ideas of college students and link them to commercialization. Idea Factory is a creative space in universities such as Fab Lab at MIT and Tech Shop in Silicon Valley. At the 2015 Industry-Academic Cooperation Expo, it won the "Minister of Education Award of Outstanding Universities in Startup Education" for the first time in Korea.
A lecture system
From the first semester of 2015, most of the classes were converted to relative evaluation. However, some classes such as English-only classes and HELP are maintained as absolute evaluations. In the current 2013-2016 curriculum, classes are divided into basic essentials, major core, major deepening, core education, and general education, and each department designates basic essential subjects, major credits, and core liberal arts credits. In the case of core education, it is divided into five areas: science and technology, language and expression, humanities and arts, society and the world, and business and leadership, and generally consists of two credits once a week for two hours. The essential points of core education designated for each university and college number are different, so you must check them. In the case of basic essential subjects, language and writing, philosophical understanding of science and technology, professional academic English, HELP, and career development are designated as mandatory subjects in most departments, while in the case of natural science and engineering departments, basic science subjects are added. If you don't take basic courses hard or on time, you should take them alone among fresh freshmen later.
Hanyang Cyber University is located within the same foundation, allowing online credit exchanges at cyber universities up to one course per semester. It is somewhat easy to get credits because the number of students is sufficient and it is an absolute evaluation of online lectures. However, since there are midterms and final exams, you need to be careful because you may get disastrous results if you think it's easy.
There is an e-learning support center in the Seoul area on campus, so there is also a lecture in the form of B-learning. It is said to be an abbreviation for Blended-Learning, and some of the core liberal arts and technology management subjects are being conducted in B-learning. In the case of core education, as the number of credits increased from two to three, the lectures, which were offline twice a week, were changed to once a week for online lectures and once a week for techno management.
Community service
All enrolled students complete at least one credit (30 hours) of community service before graduation, and practice love, which is the foundation philosophy. The social service program is organized by Hanyang University Social Service, the first university social service group in Korea.
In addition to the course registration period, there is a separate social service application period, and you apply for social service you want to do on the portal. If you apply for a social service program for the first time, you will receive basic education. At the end of the semester or at the end of the social service program, a speech is written, and credits are given as P/F.
Evaluation
Evaluation in Korea
In the university structural reform evaluation conducted by the Ministry of Education in 2015, the Seoul Campus and the ERICA Campus received A grade (best) side by side. Hanyang University is the only university where both campuses received an A grade.
Seoul Campus and ERICA Campus were also selected as autonomous improvement universities in the 2018 Basic Competency Diagnosis, and Seoul Campus and ERICA Campus were selected as grade A side by side in the first annual evaluation of the 2020 university innovation support project.
QS World University Evaluation
Hanyang University has steadily risen from 354th place in the world in 2010 to 146th place in 2020 in the QS World University Evaluation, a British university evaluation agency.
Assessing Nature Index Innovation
Hanyang University ranked first among domestic universities and 23rd among universities in the patent citation index per paper in the "Nature Index 2017 Innovation" released in 2017 by the world's leading science publishing group "Nature Publishing Group (NPG). The Normalized Lens influence metric per paper is a score indicating how much one paper will be used for patents, and the higher the score, the more papers published by the agency are considered to be reflected in the development of practical technology.
