Overview
Asan Medical Center in Seoul is Korea's largest general hospital located in 88 Olympic-ro 43-gil, Songpa-gu, Seoul, which opened on June 23, 1989, and is a member of Asan Medical Center. It will enter the Big 5 hospitals in Korea, such as Seoul National University Hospital, Severance Hospital, Samsung Seoul Hospital, and Catholic University Seoul St. Mary's Hospital. As expected, it is the highest among all Asan hospitals in Korea in terms of medical technology. The original name was Seoul Central Hospital, but it became the current name when the CI was changed.
Chung Joo-young of Hyundai Group, the founder, was born on November 25, 1915 in Asan-ri, Songjeon-myeon, Tongcheon-gun, Gangwon-do, as the son of a poor farmer and worked hard to overcome poverty. Three old, old pairs of shoes stood out in the exhibition hall. He said he had worn shoes for more than 15 years, putting gongs and changing heels to wear them for a long time. In this respect, it can be seen that when he was alive, he was frugal in every living habit and never wasted anything trivial.

The Asan Social Welfare Foundation was established to establish a hospital in rural areas with insufficient medical facilities under the aim of "helping the most disadvantaged neighbors in our society," and in 1989, Asan Medical Center in Seoul was opened to develop into a world-class comprehensive medical institution. He thought that he should share the profits of the company. Therefore, they supported social welfare organizations and gave scholarships to talented people in need.
Level of healthcare
It is one of the Big 5 hospitals in Korea competing for Korea's top class, such as Seoul National University Hospital, Severance Hospital, Samsung Seoul Hospital, and Catholic University of Korea's Seoul St. Mary's Hospital.
It is not just a large hospital operated by the Hyundai Heavy Industries Group Foundation, but also has the highest level of medical care. In particular, liver transplantation stands out in the field of transplantation, and among them, liver transplantation boasts a 100% success rate and is competing with Seoul National University Hospital for the world's top class. The University of Minnesota Hospital passed on the technology, but now Asan Hospital passed on the technology. In addition, it was the first Korean heart transplant to succeed.

In particular, GIST (Gastrointestinal substrate tumor) is the best research performance in Korea and has been steadily cured, and books related to patients are also distributed at hospitals.
Seoul Asan Hospital, a cooperative hospital at Ulsan University Medical School, was recently named the best hospital in Korea in the "2022 World's Best Hospitals 2022" released by Newsweek, a U.S. current affairs weekly magazine. Asan Medical Center in Seoul has maintained its No. 1 position in Korea for four consecutive years, and the world ranking rose four notches from 34th last year to 30th. Samsung Medical Center was followed by 43rd, Seoul National University Hospital ranked 55th, Severance Hospital ranked 70th, and Catholic University Seoul St. Mary's Hospital ranked 87th.
Since it is a local base hospital, it is hospitalized mainly for severely ill patients. Therefore, if the emergency room or internal medicine determines that it is not serious or a serious disease, the patient is requested or transferred to a nearby small hospital or cooperative hospital. University hospitals do not cooperate but link with small hospitals.
Hospital rooms are insufficient as they try to accommodate COVID-19 confirmed patients. Therefore, in recent years, patients visiting hospitals are often sent to other hospitals.

Regardless of race, language, culture, or nationality, it provides the best support necessary for outpatient treatment, hospitalization, or emergency treatment in each department to facilitate the treatment of foreigners.
Despite the prolonged COVID-19 outbreak, foreign patients and overseas medical professionals visiting Asan Medical Center in Seoul are continuing. It was found to be willing to take a long period of self-isolation and several COVID-19 tests to experience better medicine.
It has been confirmed that a total of 12,000 foreign patients visited Asan Medical Center in Seoul last year and received treatment for the disease. According to Asan Medical Center in Seoul, the United States accounted for 30 percent with 3,527, followed by 1,314 (11%), 1,145 (10%) in China, 1,054 (9%) in Mongolia, 968 (8%) in Saudi Arabia, and 624 (5%) in Kazakhstan.
The number of foreign patients, which has decreased sharply in the early days of the outbreak of COVID-19, has been continuously recovering toward the level before COVID-19 since last winter. This year, the second year of the outbreak of COVID-19, the recovery was more pronounced, exceeding an average of 1,000 people a year from January to May this year, up about 20% from last year, Asan Medical Center in Seoul said. Then, why do overseas patients have to go through a two-week quarantine period and COVID-19 tests in sick bodies and visit Asan Medical Center even at the risk of worsening symptoms and infection until they arrive at the hospital? In response, Asan Medical Center in Seoul established standard guidelines for all services that patients encounter, including the first infection control system in Korea to provide world-class standard medical services, resulting in safe and high-quality treatment during infectious diseases. Overseas patients, guardians, and the general public who cannot visit Asan Medical Center in Seoul are getting information on diseases and treatment through non-face-to-face online channels. As access to online platforms expanded due to COVID-19, the proportion of overseas views among YouTube views at Asan Medical Center in Seoul also increased significantly. Accordingly, Asan Medical Center in Seoul supports subtitles in various languages such as English, Chinese, Russian, Arabic, and Mongolian in YouTube videos containing diseases and patient cases to deliver accurate medical information to more overseas patients. Affiliated buses include 97, 112-5, and 4318. When most local people visit by public transportation, they use Seoul Station → City Hall Station → Jamsilnaru Station or Express Bus Terminal Station → Gyotae Station → Jamsilnaru Station or riverside station → Jamsilnaru Station. There is a shuttle bus to a nearby subway station, but most of the people walking along Ttukbang-gil near Jamsilnaru Station can be regarded as visitors to this hospital. There are more hospital officials or lab researchers. The Ulsan University Medical School building is located on the hospital site, and it actually serves as an educational hospital of Ulsan University Medical School. However, strictly speaking, Asan Hospital is not legally a university hospital. University Hospital of Ulsan University is Ulsan University Hospital located in Jeonha-dong, Dong-gu, Ulsan. Originally, Ulsan University Hospital was Haesung Hospital, which opened as a hospital affiliated with Hyundai Chosun in 1975. After transferring from Hyundai Heavy Industries to Asan Social Welfare Foundation in 1987, it was transferred to Ulsan Industrial Academy again in 1997 and renamed Ulsan University Hospital. Later, in 2017, it officially became an affiliated hospital of Ulsan University Medical School. Another reason is that Ulsan University Medical School is located in Asan Medical Center in Seoul. Originally, they wanted to make Seoul Central Hospital, the largest among Asan Foundation hospitals, an affiliated hospital of Ulsan University Medical School, but residents in Ulsan complained that the university is in Ulsan, and the affiliated hospital is in Seoul. At that time, Hyundai's Haesung Hospital in Ulsan was too small. Even if the facility was built, it was not easy to secure medical staff. Therefore, Haesung Hospital was converted to a hospital affiliated with Ulsan University, but the faculty appointed medical staff at Seoul Central Hospital, and all medical students were sent to Seoul after only two years of preliminary studies in Ulsan. If it had become like the initial proposal, Seoul Asan Hospital would have become Seoul Asan Hospital affiliated with Ulsan University Medical School, and Ulsan University Hospital would have become Ulsan Asan Hospital.International Patients <Outpatient Services>
