Kim Minha's profile, etc

Below, we will listen to behind-the-scenes stories such as Kim Min-ha's profile, reason for her good English skills, motivation for starting an actor, and the process of casting Pachinko.

The U.S. media Deadline introduces actor Kim Min-ha as "a rookie fluent in English and Korean, who was selected through fierce competition in the worldwide 'Pachinko' audition."

Apple TV's original series "Pachinko" is a chronicle of love and separation, victory and refereeing of Zainichi's life, which was not comfortable anywhere from Japanese colonial era to the 1980s. Based on the New York Times bestselling book of the same name, it tells the story of the hopes and dreams of Korean immigrant families delicately and warmly.

It was produced by Media Reds, a Hollywood production company, and drew attention with a large number of Hollywood productions, including executive producer Michael Ellenberg, and Korean-American directors such as Yoon Yeo-jung, Lee Min-ho, Jin-ha, Kim Min-ha, Jung Eun-chae, Han Jun-woo, Roh Sang-hyun, and Jeon Yu-na. It is also a global project produced in three languages, Korean, Japanese, and English, and consists of a total of eight episodes.

Kim Min-ha, who played the role of 'Pachinko' Sunja when she was a teenager, said about the casting.

"I auditioned for three to four months and didn't know there was an audition at first. I started after getting a call from the casting director. I thought I should do this just with the audition script, so I worked hard, and after receiving the first callback, I started reading the original. I didn't know there was an original before the audition, but I was greatly comforted by reading the original. So I got more greedy, so I had a lot of interviews during the audition, and at the end, I even auditioned for Chemistry."

Kim Min-ha said that it was hard to act in the Sunja's dialect in "Pachinko."

"The dialect part was hard for me I grew up in Seoul and only vaguely heard the dialect from movies and dramas, but I had a lot of worries to act in detail. My dialect teacher kept coaching me and friends and acquaintances who lived in Yeongdo helped me a lot, so I think I overcame it."

"Pachinko" is characterized by the vast story of a generation from the 1930s to the 1980s. Kim Min-ha interviewed her about the difficulties in acting out the era she had never lived in.

"I kept asking how those days would have been so different from now. I asked a lot of questions because my maternal grandmother was alive in that era, and I received a lot of help. At that time, I prepared while listening to my grandmother's feelings, thoughts, and experiences. Zainichi's story was shocking. I asked if it was true, and they said it was true. There's no distortion, no exaggeration. I was even more shocked then."

An official from Pachinko told the behind story of casting Kim Min-ha.

"Actor Kim Min-ha joined late. I remembered getting nervous. The young fairy is a very important role, so I was worried if I couldn't find it. In the process, I saw Kim Min-ha's tape. While watching the actors, I thought that I could get voice training, and I could learn and do lines, but I couldn't make up my eyes. When I looked into Kim Min-ha's eyes, I saw Sunja's eyes. So I was able to be sure."

Kim Min-ha's English is because of her family

Kim Min-ha drew attention through the English interview video, and she also communicated a lot in English while doing Pachinko works. What is her secret to fluent English?

This is what she says about.

"I'm surprised it became a hot topic. When I was young, my mother wanted me to be an English professor. So I liked watching animations or Harry Potter and the Lord of the Rings, but when I watched foreign movies, I had to watch them without subtitles, and when I watched the original movie, there was a tight rule to watch the original first in English. I went to 3~4 English academies and I went to study languages for a short time. I've been studying English alone since I was so young because I liked watching American dramas. If that's the secret, it's the secret. I received a lot of English education. It was so hard back then, but now I am thankful to my parents every day."

What is her future aspiration?

"In fact, I am very timid, have a small voice, and talk to myself a lot, but while doing this work, I was able to speak out on my own. I learned a lot about myself, and I learned so much that I never missed learning anything while filming every day. This work was like a gift that even opened my heart to me. It's like a gift and I want to deliver my story as an actor with a wider perspective and spectrum."
